I was 7 years old in '75 when I proudly walked up to the cashier at Bradley's ( by myself and with my own money ) and bought Elton John's Greatest Hits .

RB , Creek , GD , first album ....

Were there Bradlee's everywhere? or is this forum just a bunch of east coasters? or worse yet, Massholes? (woo-hoo! massholes! proud to be one!)

I grew up in Connecticut and we had Caldors and Bradlees too - this thread is eerie.

Caldor and Bradlees? Wow, taking me back to a place I'm not sure I want to go.

Are there still Lechemeres out there?

Just for the record that Lechmere was actually in Framingham....in the Framingham Mall....i also used to frequent both that lechmere and Tweeter....though I liked the old Tech Hifi better....Lechmeres were bought out by Target I think...but the Lechmere stop still exists on the MBTA ! http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lechmere?wasRedirected=true

Excellent information here cause in my language, there are not much good source like this. This interesting post made me smile. Maybe if you throw in a couple of pictures it will make the whole thing more interesting.

Ahhhh, Framingham Mall. Nice. Was it the Natick mall that was open like the old Cowboys stadium? Now that was an excellent idea. Lets go Christmas shopping in an open air mall when it's 20 degrees.

Shoppers World And the Natick Mall were the 2 big attractions on rte9, Lechmere was on rte 30 parallel to Shoppers World on the back side! What area were you from , ill guess Wayland?

Yep. Also time in Sommerville and Boston proper. Remember that abortion clinic where the shooting took place? I was in an apartment in the same building. Could walk to Fenway AND it was still rent-controlled. Those were the days.

Lechemeres I've never heard of.

When he mentioned Caldor, it only dimly came back to me. Caldor was sort of like a Target today. Bradlees was seriously junky, like Woolworth. In New England we also had Kresge's. My mother called them "five and dime's," referring to even earlier days when many items were actually five or ten cents I guess.

Lechemere was department store in the Boston area. I frequented the one on Rte 9 in Natick. Close by was a Tweeter where I purchased my first pair of Boston Acoustics. THAT was a happy day.

Lived in Mass. I think there was a caldor and bradlee's right off the highway in CT. I want to say 10 mins past Enfield.

I grew up in Waterford, near New London. I don't remember where the Caldor or Bradlee's was ... long gone now.

Yes. Believe it or not, despite the ferry at our doorstep, I have to this day never been to Long Island.

so you must be right there. I seem to remember General Dynamics or some company like that in the area as we shipped off. I'm assuming you went to Ocean Beach growing up?

General Dynamics is Electric Boat - nuclear submarine capitol of the world. Pfizer is also there. When I was growing up, everybody's dad worked at one of those two places. And everybody's mom baked cookies.

We went to the Waterford beaches, but you can walk around the cove to Ocean Beach, with its (then) pathetic excuse for an amusement park - 2 or 3 rinky-dink rides and a sleazy boardwalk.

Rinky dink is a good term. We would always finish the day at the mini golf and the giant whale hole they had.

you are right, this thread is eerie -- but in a very nice way . I like these threads that tell us more about each other. I love the music and all the amazing listening recommendations that come our way here, but I tend to chime in when we are discussing who we are.
